The simple direct answer: The point of chronology chosen from which to count the “2300 days” toward the coming of “Messiah” as “The Prince of Princes” was not correct for proper placement of the prophetic time.

No. We did NOT have the dates right.
If one should chose the wrong point in history from which the count should begin, would it not bring us to a closing point which would be equally an error? The paralleling outline for history from Daniel, chapters 2,7,8, and 11-12 show a sequence for placements of the prophetic “2300 days” beginning with the time, times and the dividing of time” to follow immediately after the decline and fall of the “fourth kingdom” of Dan.7 (or the Roman Empire), which kingdom should follow after the era of Greece of Dan. 8. If we compare and follow this sequence through from Dan.11 through Dan. 12, (exclusive of Dan.9) relative to the taking away of “the Daily” we shall discover in what era both the “time, times, and an half a times” and the 2300 years should commence from that same point of chronology in History. (1260 +30 +45 + the remainder of years will equal 2300).
But as with the First Advent of Messiah, “No man knows” to the month, the week, “the day, nor the hour of the coming of the Son Of Man.”
3. “Why are we still here?”
William Miller did not stand alone in his concept that Christ might come about that period in the early 1800s. Even the Great reformer Martin Luther wrote of his expectation of the coming of Christ about 150 years from his own time. Also there were at least two other prominent preachers [missionaries], contemporaries of Miller’s time who had and expressed a similar time for expectation concerning the event of Jesus Return. The Time of Jesus Coming has not been “delayed,” neither is it “wrong” to live in Biblical anticipate for the time revealed through His prophet/s, especially Daniel and John, concerning the “nearing years"toward His Second Coming. What is wrong is that we should so adamantly hold to that which has already been proven a falsehood and instruct other in that continuance of the doctrinal error/s.
Were still here because we are still living in the era we have, in error, counted as having come to completion as history. Jesus WILL RETURN for His kingdom people when His years have come to their prophetic close.
