Hi Jonvil,

Thanks for bringing a great sense of humor to this thread, and thanks for your contributions to this forum. You are certainly a good example of a former/transitioning SDA who has studied the theological issues that are at the root of SDAism as well as the problem with much of evangelicalism today.

Jonvil, I’m warning you, if that happens again, you’re outta’ here… Haven’t you read the forum rules? wink

Seriously, I appreciate the humor.

I also want to let you everyone know that I’m working on some changes to the structure of this site that will hopefully make it easier to read and participate in the discussions. I may have something to share in a week or so...assuming I find the time to wrap things up.

To all who have been here over the last year and to others who are passing through, prayers for a safe and blessed New Year, confined in God’s providential care.

Thanks but...even a blind hog can find an acorn (wisdom from the Ozarks)

After about a thousand hours of study I’m beginning to get a glimmer. Don’t forget - it took me 35 YEARS to figure out that something was even wrong - at that rate I’ll probably 90 before I figure out what’s right

Dear Stan and 4TG friends,

I have not been to this forum for many months.  I have been doing a bit of “catching” up the last couple of days.

What a treat for me to see my name included in your Christmas greeting.  I have known, though life has a way of keeping me elsewhere, that you have continued to hold me up in your prayers - as I have held you in mine.  That means a great deal to me.

I just wanted to say hi, let you know I am “around” and reassure you that I still trust completely that God is actively leading my life in His ways - one day at a time.

Wishing you all a happy, peaceful and trust-filled 2008.

Hi everyone,

As we approach the Christmas holiday, I would like to repost what I think is one of the most inspiring prayers regarding Christmas I have ever read. This comes from our spiritual ancestors, the Puritans, and this comes from the book “Valley of Vision”

The Gift of Gifts

“O SOURCE OF ALL GOOD,
What shall I render thee for the gift of gifts,
thine own dear Son, begotten, not created,
my redeemer, proxy, surety, substitute,
his self-emptying incomprehensible,
his infinity of love beyond the heart’s grasp.

Herein is wonder of wonders:
he came below to raise me above,
was born like me that I might become like him.
Herein is love:
when I cannot rise to him he draws near on wings of grace,
to raise me to himself.
Herein is power;
when Deity and humanity were infinitely apart
he united them in indissoluble unity, the uncreated and the created.
Herein is wisdom;
when I was undone, with no will to return to him,
and no intellect to devise recovery,
he came, God-incarnate, to save me to the uttermost,
as man to die my death
to shed satisfying blood on my behalf,
to work out a perfect righteousness for me.

O God, take me in spirit to watchful shepherds, and
enlarge my mind;
let me hear good tidings of great joy,
and hearing, believe, rejoice, praise, adore,
my conscience bathed in an ocean of repose,
my eyes lifted to a reconciled Father;
place me with ox, ass, camel, goat,
to look with them upon my redeemer’s face,
and in him account myself delivered from sin;
let me with Simeon clasp the new-born child to my heart,
embrace him with undying faith,
exulting that he is mine and I am his.
In him thou hast given me so much that heaven can give no more.”
-------------------------------------------------------------
Praise God indeed for the blessed Incarnation where Deity took on humanity and came into the world under the most humble circumstances, that we may be redeemed.

Merry Christmas to all!
