Someone suggested that Frank Sinatra’s popular song, ”I did it my way,” should be the theme song in hell.  We are constantly bombarded with the notion that there is no free lunch.  We must earn it.  Consequently, it is difficult for many to relinquish all control to God for their salvation as well.  The natural, sinful heart yearns to be in full control of his or her life--even attempting to be the captains of their eternal destiny.

Pollsters reveal that most people think they are basically good and decent.  Of course, the Bible tells us that we are rotten to the core with a personal righteousness as “filthy rags.” We are all born as rebels against God, and we must be born again to enter heaven.  This was a hard sell for even Jesus (see John 6:66).  Thus, it should not surprise us that Reformed theology is still a rebuke and an affront to the vanity or sinful pride of man.  We are special and secure in Christ as adoptees into His wonderful family.  We are never unadopted nor can we become unreborn.  The good news could not get any better.
