Poison is still poison no matter the dosage, or who administers it, whether Mom and Dad, Uncle Sam or Graeme, it will still kill ya’.

Unfortunately while the four you mentioned “acknowledge the discrepancies and confusion and try to clear it up” they are creating confusion about the bible authors, but this has been discussed before, hasn’t it?

Thank God for sending Jesus to step up to the plate, lay down his life and make things so uncomplicated for us in the first place, but Lord, who hath believed our report?

The following comments are written by one who thinks that this is an Adventist blog. Maybe I’m wrong. With that in mind;

Ladies and gentlemen; if you do not regard EGW as a prophet why not leave the SDA church? Then you don’t even have to bother talking about her! You won’t even run the risk of confusing others about God’s word.

Anonymous,

This is actually a formeradventist blog. Only about two of us that regularly post here are Adventist.

The purpose of this forum is not to condemn Adventists, but to simply point out the gospel and allow dialogue to go on concerning how our standards and beliefs add up.

There are some of us that believe in the inspiration of EGW but not the inspired level that our church has exalted her to. I believe that EGW was inspired but also that she was very fallible. God used her for a purpose at the time to give council to the church in a time of need and to bring people back to studying the scriptures.

I don’t believe that EGW was meant to be a straightjacket for further biblical study or differing conclusions than what our pioneers came to. I believe that EGW was progressive and didn’t intend that we remain stagnant in our beliefs and hold her to he authority and final say in theological, historical or medical issues like our church has.

History, letters and testimony from EGW and some of our finest theologians and people who knew her personally attest to the validity of these conclusions.

Some disagree with me and I’ve taken flak from both sides for my stance. Most formers and conservative SDAs take the ‘all or nothing’ approach to EGW. I believe the stance I take is necessary to properly understand EGW, her writings today and the role it plays in progressing to further truths in our church.

God bless.

Hi Anonymous,

I would first and foremost choose to define this site as “Christian” and not “Adventist” or “former Adventist”.  Most of us have at one point either been in the Adventist church or, like Guibox, are currently in the church.  Even though some of us have left Adventism, we share the common title of “Christian” with our Adventist friends who have also placed their faith in Him.  Anyone who shares our hope in the gospel of Jesus and even those who are questioning their faith or their Adventist beliefs are welcome here.

Regarding Ellen White, Hebrews 1:1-2 says, “Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.”

Anonymous, I am curious how you interpret Ellen White’s work in light of this text.  For example, if someone has professed a belief in Christ and trusts His merits for their salvation, of what use will Ellen White’s writings be to them?  Ellen White called herself the “lesser light”.  If one is living with full knowledge of the “Greater Light”, do they really need a light that is dim by comparison?

Even if we accept Ellen White as a prophet within the context of New Testament teaching, we must still submit ourselves (and the prophet) to Scripture.  The apostle Paul counseled the Corinthian church on this, saying, “Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others weigh what is said. If a revelation is made to another sitting there, let the first be silent.  For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all be encouraged, and the spirits of prophets are subject to prophets. For God is not a God of confusion but of peace.” (1 Corinthians 14:29-33 ESV)

I’m sure even Guibox would agree that this is not how Ellen White has been handled by the Adventist church.  Many who have tried to “weigh what has been said” have been shown the door.

Anonymous, I look forward to hearing more from you and I pray that you will be richly blessed in Jesus Christ.
