Hi Anonymous,
I would first and foremost choose to define this site as “Christian” and not “Adventist” or “former Adventist”. Most of us have at one point either been in the Adventist church or, like Guibox, are currently in the church. Even though some of us have left Adventism, we share the common title of “Christian” with our Adventist friends who have also placed their faith in Him. Anyone who shares our hope in the gospel of Jesus and even those who are questioning their faith or their Adventist beliefs are welcome here.
Regarding Ellen White, Hebrews 1:1-2 says, “Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.”
Anonymous, I am curious how you interpret Ellen White’s work in light of this text. For example, if someone has professed a belief in Christ and trusts His merits for their salvation, of what use will Ellen White’s writings be to them? Ellen White called herself the “lesser light”. If one is living with full knowledge of the “Greater Light”, do they really need a light that is dim by comparison?
Even if we accept Ellen White as a prophet within the context of New Testament teaching, we must still submit ourselves (and the prophet) to Scripture. The apostle Paul counseled the Corinthian church on this, saying, “Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others weigh what is said. If a revelation is made to another sitting there, let the first be silent. For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all be encouraged, and the spirits of prophets are subject to prophets. For God is not a God of confusion but of peace.” (1 Corinthians 14:29-33 ESV)
I’m sure even Guibox would agree that this is not how Ellen White has been handled by the Adventist church. Many who have tried to “weigh what has been said” have been shown the door.
Anonymous, I look forward to hearing more from you and I pray that you will be richly blessed in Jesus Christ.
