At the same Desiring God conference where Julius Kim’s sermon was delivered, they had a discussion panel on the issue of the execution of Servetus at this link:

The best historical evidence shows that Calvin was not directly responsible for the death of Servetus. However Calvin is not being completely exonerated. This is a balanced and fair treatment of this difficult issue.

This is the favorite whipping boy of those who want to discredit John Calvin.

Hey Stan,

Thanks so much for posting the links to the Desiring God conference. Julius Kim’s sermon had me in tears. To see some of the ways God has used men for His purposes in spreading the Gospel was really remarkable. The senior pastor at our church has mentioned several times that one of his favorite sermons is Francis Schaeffer’s “If God so used a stick of wood”, in which Schaeffer talks about the staff of Moses. If God so used a stick of wood, He can and most certainly does use broken and sinful men like us for His sovereign designs.

Thanks Nate. Francis Schaeffer was great.

I am glad you found Julius Kim’s sermon as moving as I did. It is the most powerful story I have heard in quite some time.
