No I am encouraging accurate quotes and since Greg put something false in quotes .... I feel that the record needs correcting.

Gabriel,

Thanks for posting those passages again and for a great post.  There really is no way a clear-thinking person, SDA or otherwise, can take something so plainly stated and and make an outright denial of what is laid out in black and white and retain credibility.

At this point it seems pointless to keep arguing.  Let the lurkers read all of these posts and determine who is using them honestly and who is not.

Help! I’ve been lurking and have been drawn into an event horizon where all the laws of logic and reason no longer apply…or maybe it was a rabbit hole and I’m in ‘Alice and Wonderland’… I’ve got it, it’s an alternate universe where positive is negative and up is down and the inhabitants deny all authority except when…rats, thought I had a handle on this. Now what’s happening? I’m being sucked into a huge pile of...of...FLUFF! What a nightmare-will somebody please wake me up!

My head aches-I’m going to an asylum for a reality check

Cool Post. Thumbs Up. I do agree with you. I’ve had such a headache over all this also.

This is my headache and confusion :

Why would someone agrue about all this fluff when we could be discussing the blessed Gospel.
What I see happening on this forum is constant attacks on the beliefs as presented by former SDAs who ‘think’ they know what SDAs believe. And if you as an SDA don’t believe as they perceive SDAs to believe then instead of praising God ... they attack you as not being a real SDA. Go figure.

What I would propose to have done in this forum is to present the Gospel as you believe it. When an SDA comes here for a visit ... share the good news with them. The TRUTH will be blessed to people. Each time the SDA states something like Ellen White .... just show them the Gospel. NO need to attack Ellen White ... just point them to the Gospel.

What happens here is when I came to discuss the Gospel .... all the participants wanted to talk about their perceived belief about SDAs and Ellen White. This seems to be the mission of this forum. I don’t get it. The cause of God would be much better done if you just shared the Gospel with us misinformed SDAs or even those like me that you feel are pretending to be SDA. The Gospel first and the Gospel Last. That is the way it should be. But instead ... you guys want to talk about all the fluff. I don’t get it. This is the source of my headache. Please ... just give me the Gospel. The Gospel can stand on its own two legs. Present Jesus. Jesus first and Jesus last.

You guys just need to get over your perception of the SDA church. Present Christ instead. Forget about trying to argue about Ellen White. She is just not worth it. Just throw her out and concentrate on the life of Jesus.

I’ve tried hard to convince you to just toss her ... but I fear there is an addiction here. And it appears to be fatal as far as Christian terms. The cure folks is JESUS. Look to Him and not mere humans. The Bible is all we need. This was the message of EGW. But I am not here to defend her. I would prefer to just drop her and this is the belief of most SDAs. Our belief is that the Bible is complete. You don’t need any more. You certainly don’t need Ellen White.

Come join us in an Adventist Church sometime. You will appreciate the difference compared to all the Ellen White that you get on this site. I can assure you that you will not find as much Ellen White in our church as you get here on this site.

GH, I have to admit you seem fixated on EGW.  Also I have had suspicions that you are just a made up name by someone on this site to make SDA’s look like they are fixated on EGW.  If that is the case, they are doing a good job.  “I’ve tried hard to convince you to just toss her ... but I fear there is an addiction here!” My goodness!

Aaron, Joinvil,

The same feeling of Alice in Wonderland and also of the possibility of being pointless to keep arguing.

Glorify Him, you condemned yourself by this statement. You accused us of having wrong views about the SDA Church and Ellen White’s role in the Church, and continued making the same accusations after we took precious time to respond to you and state our case as best as possible. You relentlessly continued to pursue the same path, repeated the same accusations, and we consistently insisted to defend our views.  You insisted on this subject, and you wanted to talk about our views regarding SDA Church and Ellen White. How can you dare to accuse us of wanting to talk about this subject when you started it and fed it with your continuous and relentless accusations? We were accused of telling lies about the SDA Church all the time, and you’re now conveniently coping out of responsibility pointing a finger to us by saying “They want to discuss this subject, I want to talk about the gospel”?

When you accused us of telling lies about the SDA Church and its position about Ellen White, what subject was proposed by you:

1 ."their perceived belief about SDAs and Ellen White’
2. the gospel

When you continued to make the same accusations, that we tell lies about SDA Church and its position about Ellen White what subject you wanted to talk about:

1 ."their perceived belief about SDAs and Ellen White’
2. the gospel

The answer is obvious. Your accusations condemn you for it is obvious what subject you established as the point of debate. I will take Aaron’s and Joinvil’s advice and consider pointless any further conversation.

Can we agree to just ‘toss’ her then? If we as SDAs can be allowed to do that on this site ... then all is well. And we can move away from all this fluff.

I do commend you on your unique experience/position re EGW however during my 36 years as an Adventist my experience has been quite the opposite. As an example (and certainly not unique to this church); the Adventist Church I currently attend with my wife considers the Wednesday night ‘bible study’ to be a study of Desire of Ages, when they wrap that up their ‘bible study’ will then be The Testimonies. The Sabbath School program and lesson is heavy on EGW quotations as are many sermons. I’d love to toss her but the pastor and the members think otherwise, this is the norm in the Midwest. Even in rather liberal California an Adventist pastor (I was an elder in his church) was subject to extreme criticism when he openly stated his position of ‘the Bible alone’ and that EGW would not be used as a theological ‘authority’ in his church.

For many Adventists being bombarded with EGW is inescapable, they may want to toss her but she’s tossed right back.

The only way I could escape is by attending a Reformed SBC, it is there that I am able enjoy group study and worship without the intrusion of the extra biblical ‘authority’.

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.(2Co 1:2 )

Thank you John. I appreciate your post. I am most certain that what your experience has been is true. No doubt. I’ve witnessed the same. It is sad and unfortunate. I am sorry for your experience. But praise God .... I am personally finding this type of experience to be less and less.

Come to my church and you will see strict adherance to the word of Ellen White where she says that her writings are not to be quoted from the pulpit. She is not quoted at my church except for possibly to a small degree at Sabbath School.

Thanks for the credit of having a unique approach to EGW ... but it really is not unique. It is just as she instructed. I admit that some have not adhered to her instructions ... but I do. I take her at her word.

And Hey ... R SBC is fine also. God Bless.

One example of how difficult it is in our church because of some of the members ....

My spouse tried to move the worship service in one of the two churches that we have .... The suggestion was to move it to Saturday night. WOW baby. The board thought that might be “Sunday Worship” !!!  And the reply was .... what is wrong with worship on both Sabbath AND Sunday ????

Well that idea was shot down. But, you can’t change them over-night. Some old ideas have been so engrained that the habits are hard to break. But we will work at it ... Pray for us .....  The church I used to attend DID just that. We had worship services on both Sabbath and Sunday. Praise God. As you can imagine ... we ended up getting more to attend on Sunday rather than Sabbath.

Like I say .... not sure there is anything for you on [my church’s website].

Nice try. You would love my identity. I see no need to give it. The link [to my church’s website] would disclose my identity.

Glorify Him, how is anyone supposed to visit to your church if you refuse to disclose its name and website? You are talking out of both sides of your mouth.

Well ... I guess you got me on that one. Don’t have a good solution to that issue. But if you keep attending enough SDA churches ... you might find mine. OR at least you might find a good one.

GH, you trumpet the greatness of your church but you want people to stumble upon it accidentally? What kind of Christian minister doesn’t want people knowing about his church?

Your words do not stand alone as truth—they are only true insofar as they can be supported with facts. You haven’t provided one shred of evidence that you are who you claim to be. If you are indeed an Adventist, your behavior is a discredit to your church.
