The Term

Creation
(kree-AY-shun)

The Definition

Merriam-Webster: The act of bringing something into existence.

FTG Expanded Explanation: Creation is God's sovereign act of bringing the universe into existence out of nothing by the power of His Word. Scripture teaches that God created all things in six literal days and declared His creation to be very good. Everything exists because of His wisdom, power, and purpose. He did not initiate creation by chance or accident, but with intentional action and divine purpose. Humanity was uniquely created in God's image to know Him, worship Him, steward His creation, and display His glory. The doctrine of creation establishes God as Creator, Owner, and Ruler over everything He has made and is one of the most important doctrines for Christians to understand.

The Biblical Connection

Genesis 1:1 – "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth."

Colossians 1:16-17 – " For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together."

Psalm 19:1 – "The heavens are telling of the glory of God; and their expanse is declaring the work of His hands."

Used in an Everyday Conversation

“Creation reminds us that the universe is not an accident but the intentional work of an all-wise Creator.”

“Because God made everything, He alone has the authority to define truth, morality, purpose, and human identity.”

“The beauty, order, and complexity of creation continually point us to the greatness and glory of the God who made all things.”
