Why Feminists Defend Lindsay Clancy

Clancy killed her three children in a brutal way, and yet throughout her case women have publicly identified with her, expressed solidarity with her, and turned her into a champion of overwhelmed motherhood. 

Why is this insanity now normal for our culture?

Because modern feminism has spent generations teaching women to interpret womanhood through the lens of victimhood, and eventually, an ideology built upon rebellion against God will produce moral insanity.

Feminism Begins With the Wrong Question

The issues we’re seeing today stem from asking the wrong question. Biblical womanhood begins with God and asks, What did God create me to be? Feminism begins with self and asks, Who has the right to tell me what I must be?

From the beginning, Satan’s strategy was to convince humanity that God’s boundaries were oppressive rather than good when he hissed to Eve, “Did God actually say?” (Genesis 3:1). What the serpent offered in that moment was autonomy. Eve was tempted to take what God had forbidden and define reality for herself. Lucifer beckoned her to reject the “limitations” that God had seemingly placed on her, and if she would just throw them off, she could reach her potential! 

That spirit runs directly through modern feminism.

God says male and female are distinct and complementary (Genesis 1:27). That means they correspond to one another (like a “helper suitable” in Genesis 2:18-25). Feminism sees the created order as “oppressive.”

God calls motherhood a blessing (Psalm 127:3–5) and calls on mothers to focus on their husbands, children, and homes (Titus 2:3-5). Feminism declares this a waste of womanhood, and treats children as obstacles to female fulfillment.

God assigns husbands and wives different responsibilities within marriage (Ephesians 5:22–33), establishing the man as the head of the wife (1 Corinthians 11:3) to cover, protect, and lead her like Jesus. Feminism calls hierarchy oppression.

God places the protection of vulnerable life beneath His moral law. Feminism made the destruction of unborn children one of its defining political causes.

I want you to understand that the core issue has never merely been “women’s rights.” The deeper issue that derives from feminism is, who gets to define womanhood? God? Or women? 

Feminism Has Trained Women to See Themselves as Victims

Once oppression becomes the governing framework and God’s design is seen as the root of female oppression, personal responsibility begins to disappear. If a woman hates motherhood, society failed her. If marriage makes her miserable, patriarchy failed her. If her career suffers because she has children, motherhood failed her. If she aborts her child, circumstances forced her. And now, when a mother kills her children, the gravitational pull of the ideology is so predictable. Feminists will naturally cry out, “What happened to her?!” And few (if any) will ask, “How dare a mother do this to her children?”  

Three children were murdered, yet feminism will ensure Lindsay is painted as the victim. Ideological solidarity can become so powerful that women see themselves in the mother before they see their own children in Cora, Dawson, and Callan. 

And that should absolutely horrify us.  

This Is Where Rebellion Against God Leads

I write these things to you so you can make sense of the chaos and also to warn us collectively that this is where rebellion against God leads us as a society. 

Scripture does not flatter humanity in this regard and identifies this as the common pattern. When people reject God, Paul says their thinking becomes “futile,” their hearts are darkened, and eventually they exchange God’s truth for a lie (Romans 1:21–25). We often use that to speak against homosexuality, but it can explain the overall trajectory of rebellion itself. 

Reject the Creator, and eventually creation gets turned upside down in several ways: 

• Freedom becomes bondage

• Children become burdens

• Motherhood becomes oppression

• Murder becomes “healthcare”

• Perpetrators can become symbols of victimhood 

Christians cannot treat feminism as a harmless political preference with a few excesses around the edges. It is demonic, and it is damning. I believe it is one of the worst dangers we are facing in the church and world today because Lucifer was the first feminist, and he continues to wage war against humanity and God by assaulting biblical womanhood today! The serpent’s lie in Eden contained the very impulse feminism has institutionalized by seeding distrust in God’s Word, rejecting His created boundaries, and seizing the right to define good, freedom, and fulfillment for yourself (Genesis 3:1–6). Feminism’s fundamental claim of autonomous self-definition collides with Christianity at the foundation because feminism says to women, “You are your own!” Christianity says to women, “You are not your own.” 

Feminism has spent decades defending a woman’s supposed right to destroy her own offspring in the womb, and now it seeks to exonerate a woman who destroyed them outside the womb. When we understand that the Devil is behind all of this, we should not be shocked when a worldview capable of celebrating the death of children before birth suddenly champions exoneration in a case where we have the death of children after birth.

Christian Women Need Something Better

Why is all of this important to understand and think about? Because so much of the church will be polluted by rampant feminism if we don’t recover a biblical vision of womanhood. Churches and pastors must not tiptoe around this issue, and Christian women do not need feminism baptized with Bible verses. They need Christ, Scripture, biblical conviction, and to be taught (and championed!) that submission to God is not slavery. Motherhood is not beneath the godly Christian woman. It is one of the great glories of womanhood (1 Timothy 2:15). 

Biblical womanhood is not a defect or some oppressive ideology. It is liberating! Children are not enemies of a woman’s fulfillment. They are a divine gift! And perhaps most important of all in these days, God’s design does not need to be apologized for.

And when an ideology can make women look at three murdered children and instinctively identify with the murderer, Christians should stop asking whether feminism has gone too far.

We should start asking whether its roots were rotten from the beginning.
