Special Revelation
The Definition
Merriam-Webster: The disclosure of divine truth through specific, supernatural means.
FTG Expanded Explanation:
Special revelation refers to the specific ways God has revealed Himself clearly and savingly to humanity. This includes Scripture, the person of Jesus Christ, and direct acts of God in history. Unlike general revelation, special revelation provides the knowledge necessary for salvation. It reveals God’s character, His will, and His redemptive plan through Christ.
The Biblical Connection
Hebrews 1:1–2 – “God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets… in these last days has spoken to us in His Son.”
Romans 10:17 – “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.”
John 1:18 – “No one has ever seen God; God the only Son, who is at the Father’s side, he has made him known.”
Jesus Christ is the fullest expression of special revelation because He is the living Word. Scripture is the written form that testifies to Him.
